Hi William –
The acorn necklaces arrived yesterday –they are absolutely lovely!
I put mine on right away and am enjoying wearing it. The other 3 will be Christmas gifts.
In late August (during the time you sent the e-mail about the acorn necklace offer), my sweet little rescue squirrel (black variety of the Eastern grey squirrel), who has been with me for over 5 years (he can’t be released because his misaligned incisors need filing down every 4 weeks) managed to overcome all the safeguards I had in place in the house and escape to the urban wild.
I put up posters and walked the lanes and streets in the neighborhood everyday for 3 days with no sign of him. On the 4th day after a major search for him all morning I went out again and there he was in a big oak tree, less than a block away. I tried to entice him with his favorite foods, but no luck. The next morning I managed to capture him and take him to the vet.
He lost 100g in the 4 days he was gone, had lots of war wounds (fights with other squirrels?) and was at the vet for emergency care and ongoing medical attention for most of the week. I visited him twice every day. He’s been thoroughly checked out and treated, blood work, parasites, etc. and has now been home for over 2 weeks. He’s doing well – his weight is coming back nicely and he’s active each day, running around and doing what I call his Mexican jumping bean routine.
Interestingly, he hasn’t looked out the window since he came home. He’s happily burying nuts around the house and loves to play with me and have me pet him more than he ever did before. He seems very happy (and relieved) to be home. He has always been a precious little guy and now he’s twice as precious.
This lovely acorn necklace I’m wearing, with the little squirrel safely tucked inside, will always be very special, because it symbolizes for me the wonderful miracle of escaped-sighted-captured-recovered squirrel.
Thanks again, William, for your help with my order.
Cheers,
Susan
